Some additional data snapshots - EU27 residents Interest in science and levels of information 79% say they are very or moderately interested in scientific and technological developments. Highest Cyprus 92%, lowest Bulgaria and Romania 58%. 65% say they are very or moderately interested in sports news and 68% in politics (see p.9-p.10 of full survey for more detail) 61% say they are well or moderately well informed on new scientific discoveries - highest Luxembourg 79%, France and Netherlands 77%, lowest Bulgaria and Romania 35% (p.13-p.15). 33% agree or tend to agree that "in my daily life, it is not important to know about science". Highest Austria 57%, lowest Sweden 20%. 48% disagree or tend to disagree (p.45). Science versus faith and superstition 40% agree or tend to agree that "some numbers are especially lucky for some people". Highest Latvia 60%, Czech Republic 59%, lowest Finland 21%, Netherlands 25%. 35% disagree or tend to disagree (p.50). 38% agree or tend to agree that we "depend too much on science and not enough on faith". Moral, ethical and communication issues 44% agree or tend to agree that scientists should be allowed to experiment on dogs and monkeys if this can help sort out human health problems. Women in science 75% think their government should support specific measures to improve women's representation in the scientific professions. 74% agree or tend to agree that cross-border collaborative research funded by the EU will become more and more important. Highest Cyprus 87%, Netherlands/Germany 83%, lowest Romania 61%, UK 63%. 5% disagree or tend to disagree (p.117). 69% agree or tend to agree that EU funded collaborative research is in society's interest. Highest Sweden 81%, Czech Republic 80%, Cyprus 79%, lowest Lithuania 42%, Romania 54%. 9% disagree or tend to disagree (p.126). 62% agree or tend to agree that EU funded collaborative research is more creative and efficient than research carried out and funded by each Member State.
