Athens 5 Feb 2012: Intelen, the leading Greek start-up in smart grid 2.0 services, announcing that initiates investments and important kick-off development in IPv6 technologies and Internet-Of-Things "IoT" that will be applied to Smart Grid applications and services for the "Future Energy Internet". The initiation is highly correlated with the kick-off of GEN6, the first European project on IPv6 technologies, where Intelen is a full partner.
Intelen will be responsibe for deploying Smart Grid and IPv6 metering technologies in buildings as a Natonal Pilot, with GRNET and CTI Patras.
By enabling IPv6 in the current AMI infrastructures, this will increase service reliability as well as efficiency for energy data management and control. In addition, Smart grid added-value social applications will further increase the energy awareness and cause behavioural changes of the building communities. Motivation techniques for energy customer engagement will be boosted, using direct access over IPv6, e.g. a mobile IPv6 over 3G or smart meters.
From the operational perspective, the management overhead for interconnecting a large number of energy smart meters will be reduced as NAT gateways will be removed and, at the same time, a better level of security to the buildings intranets will be guaranteed. .
The transition plan includes the replacement/upgrade of the existing energy smart meters to support IPv6, the upgrade of the cloud infrastructure to be able to accept connections from IPv6-enabled devices, and the support of bi-directional communicational models between the energy smart meters and the centralised data management application (Intelen's MDM Energy Analytics 2.0). Service provision will be upgraded transparently and Web 2.0 social services will also be offered.
