Best SEO Practices for Content CuratorsBy Lingospot. Republished from the corporate blog.

Good SEO is particularly important for content curation sites—you want people to be able to find the content that you’ve curated. When you take the necessary steps to optimize your SEO, you make it easier for people to find your site and the content you worked so hard to curate. Consider implementing some of the following steps to reach a larger audience, attract your target audience and rank higher in search results.

1. The first step in preparing for Search Engine Optimization is brainstorming for keywords to attract your target audience—what will they be searching for that will lead them to the content on your site? Think about your subject matter and what terms people might use when they are looking for the information provided on your site.

2. Once you’ve come up with your top keywords, feature them throughout your site. When search engines crawl your page they will pick up on them. The more instances of your keywords, the higher you can rank for them in search results. So when you curate or create new content, be sure to include the keywords for which you’d like to rank and use those keywords in the search parameters for your curated content.

3. You’ll want to include your keywords in the following places (on each page of your site) to ensure optimal ranking: alt text, heading tags, page title, meta description, meta keywords, page content, internal links to other pages on your site featuring this keyword, website URL, images (tags and titles).

4. Be active in the community of your industry/subject of focus and engage people online via blogs and social media to build inbound links to your site, using your keyword as the anchor text for your links when you leave a comment or post information online.

5. Organization/navigation: organize your content and your site in an easy to follow, user-friendly layout with good navigation and a site map.
